Session 10. End-of-course presentations (08/04/11)

Next Friday's session will be the last of the course. You will role-play your dialogues in front of the other students, who will asess your performance, pronunciation, correctness and repertoire.

You will also fill in the "End-of-course students' satisfaction questionnaire".

Finally, we will watch some funny videos from the popular TV sitcom 'Little Britain' involving situations at the bank, and you will do some activities in connection with the videos.

I hope you have had a good time and you've learnt a lot in this course!

Session 9. Online banking + other banking products (01/04/11)

In today's session we will go through some useful concepts about online and telephone banking, and we will do some general revision exercises.

We will also learn other types of banking products, such as pension plans, stock accounts or investment funds.


Finally, I will give you some time to prepare and practice your end-of-course dialogues that you will do in the last session of the course (April 8th).

Session 8. Taking care of our clients / Online and telephone banking (25/03/11)

In next Friday's session we will learn some useful expressions that could be used when it comes to taking care of our clients (e.g. how to make requests, saying the right thing in specific situations, explaining bank procedures using the first conditional and modal verbs, expressing purpose with 'to' + infinitive).

Then we will see the main features of online and telephone banking, and we will do some general revision exercises.

Remember you will have to role-play a dialogue (in pairs/threes) in the last session of the course. You can let me know about your proposals in the class.

Session 7. Loans and mortgages (18/03/11)

In today's session we will talk about loans and mortgages. We will study some dialogues and analyse the specific vocabulary used when requesting a mortgage. After that, you will practice similar situations and will improvise conversations depending on the conditions of the mortgage. We will also get familiar with some mortgage-related terms, such as fixed rate mortgage, land registry office, repayment period, etc.

In the second part of the session, we will learn some vocabulary about different types of properties, comparing two different properties, giving advice to our clients, and persuading them to do take the right decision.

Session 6. Common Confusions + Past Simple vs Present Perfect (11/02/11)

In next Friday's session, we will analyse some confusing words which have different translations into English, and we will analyse the conflicts that may come up when using these terms.

We will also see the different uses of the Past Simple and the Present Perfect in English, and we will do some banking-related activities that involve the use of both tenses. Then we will do some revision exercises and learn some extra new vocabulary.
